How to schedule messages on Telegram: repeats, silent delivery, limits and time zones

How to schedule messages on Telegram in 2026: the app’s steps, Premium repeats, silent delivery, the limits and time zones, checked against Telegram’s docs.

Telegram channels & groupsBy Published 10 min read

In short

  • Hold (or right-click) the Send button and choose Schedule Message; it works in private chats, groups and channels.
  • Native repeats are for Telegram Premium users only, at fixed intervals from daily to yearly, and not for albums.
  • Telegram doesn’t publish its scheduling limits; a community reference lists about 100 scheduled messages per chat, up to a year ahead.

Here is how to schedule messages on Telegram: write the message, press and hold the Send button (right-click it on desktop), choose Schedule Message and pick a date and time. Telegram sends it for you at that moment. Premium users can also make it repeat, and since May 2026 any scheduled message can arrive silently.

That covers most needs for one account and one chat. The rest of this guide explains the options Telegram added in the last year, the limits it doesn’t document, how time zones catch people out, and what to do when you post to many chats or from several accounts.

How to schedule messages on Telegram in the app

Scheduling has been built into Telegram since September 2019. The announcement put it simply: hold the Send button in any chat and select Schedule Message. The steps are the same in a private chat, a group or a channel you can post in.

  1. Write the message

Type the text, or add a photo, video or file, exactly as you would send it now.

  2. Open the send menu

On a phone, press and hold the Send arrow. In Telegram Desktop, right-click it; the menu there also offers Send without sound.

  3. Choose Schedule Message

Pick the date and time. In a private chat you may also see Send When Online, covered below.

  4. Confirm and check the queue

A scheduled-messages icon appears in the message box. Tap it to see everything scheduled in that chat.

Editing, sending early or cancelling

Open the scheduled list from that icon, then long-press a message on a phone or right-click it on desktop. From there you can edit it, reschedule it, send it now or delete it; a how-to at Guiding Tech shows the reschedule and delete screens. Telegram’s API documentation describes the same actions: a scheduled message can have its date changed, be deleted from the schedule queue without being sent, or be sent immediately.

Send When Online

In a private chat, Send When Online holds the message until the other person next comes online, then sends it. The API docs say the message goes immediately if the person is already online and is queued otherwise. It isn’t available if they hide their last-seen time: the API rejects it with SCHEDULE_STATUS_PRIVATE.

Reminders for yourself

Schedule a message in Saved Messages and Telegram turns it into a reminder. The 2019 announcement notes that you get a notification marked with a calendar when a scheduled message or reminder is sent.

Can you repeat a scheduled message on Telegram?

Yes, with conditions. On 19 November 2025 Telegram announced repeated messages: press and hold Send, choose Schedule Message, then tap Repeat and pick an interval. The announcement doesn’t mention it, but the API documentation says that Premium users can send repeating scheduled messages, and it lists the only intervals allowed.

Repeat intervals Telegram allows
IntervalPeriod in the API
Every day86,400 seconds
Every week7 days
Every two weeks14 days
Every month30 days
Every three months91 days
Twice a year182 days
Every year365 days

Three details follow from the documentation:

  • Premium only. Without Telegram Premium, a scheduled message goes out once.
  • Fixed steps. There is no “every 3 days” or “every 6 hours”; it is one of the seven periods above. In the API a “month” is 30 days, not the same date each month.
  • Single messages only. The docs say the repeat period can only be used for a single message, which excludes albums. A post with several photos can’t repeat natively.

The messages.sendMessage reference describes the repeat as a message that, once sent, is re-scheduled that many seconds in the future. Keep that wording in mind if your audience lives somewhere the clocks change; the section on time zones below explains why.

How to send a scheduled message silently

Since the 7 May 2026 update, scheduled messages can be delivered silently, so they don’t disturb the recipient. Hold Send, select Schedule Message, then tap the bell icon before you confirm. The message still arrives at the chosen time; it just comes without a notification sound.

Silent delivery suits:

  • Early-morning or late-night posts to a channel whose readers are asleep.
  • Routine updates, such as a daily summary, that people read when they choose to.
  • Reminders to a group where members have asked for fewer pings.

Keep sound on for anything time-critical, such as an event starting or a change of plan. For a message you send right now, the older Send without sound option in the same menu does the same thing without scheduling.

What are Telegram’s scheduled message limits?

Telegram doesn’t publish its scheduled messages limit in its help pages. What is on record is that the limits exist: the API rejects a scheduled message with SCHEDULE_TOO_MUCH (“There are too many scheduled messages”) or SCHEDULE_DATE_TOO_LATE (“You can’t schedule a message this far in the future”). The figures below come from a community reference and a 2021 user feature request, not from Telegram.

BotsCan’t schedule messages at allThe API error SCHEDULE_BOT_NOT_ALLOWED

Albums may matter more than you expect. In an August 2021 feature request on the Telegram Desktop tracker, a user reported that a single post with ten images counted as ten scheduled messages; Telegram hasn’t confirmed whether this still applies. If you plan a week of photo-heavy posts, leave room in case you reach the cap sooner than the number of posts suggests.

Treat the numbers as a guide

The community list is maintained by volunteers and some of its other entries are out of date. If Telegram refuses a scheduled message, the error name tells you which cap you hit; the guide to why a Telegram message isn’t sending lists both errors and what to do.

How to schedule a Telegram message in another time zone

Telegram’s date picker has no time zone setting. The API stores a scheduled message as a single moment (a UNIX timestamp), so the time you pick is the time on your device’s clock. To post at 09:00 for readers somewhere else, you convert the time yourself.

  1. Decide the readers’ local time, for example 09:00 in New York.
  2. Work out the difference from your own zone on the send date, not today: on 5 October 2026, 09:00 in New York is 14:00 in London.
  3. Schedule the message for the converted time on your own clock.
  4. If the date falls near a clock change in either place, check the difference again.

Daylight saving makes this harder, because different places change their clocks on different days. In 2026 the UK’s clocks go back on 25 October, while in the United States daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday of November, which is 1 November. For that one week, New York is four hours behind London instead of five, and a post you converted by hand arrives an hour off.

Repeats are affected too. The API describes a repeat period in seconds, so a daily repeat is 86,400 seconds after the last send. Telegram doesn’t say whether it adjusts for clock changes; going by the documentation, a daily 09:00 repeat may land at 08:00 or 10:00 local time after the clocks change. Check the first send after each change and reschedule if needed.

Some schedulers store a time zone with each message instead, and keep a daily message at the same local time when the clocks change: see per-message time zones.

How to schedule one post to several groups or channels

Telegram schedules a message in one chat at a time. To send the same announcement to five groups, you repeat the steps in each of them, and each copy counts toward that chat’s cap. That works for a handful of chats, and it has three weak spots:

  • Drift between copies. Edit one and you must remember to edit the others.
  • No single view. Each chat has its own scheduled list, so there is no one place to see what goes out today.
  • No record of failures. If the account has lost the right to post in a group, you find out only by checking.

Forwarding is a separate job: if you want posts from one channel to appear in others as they are published, rather than at a set time, see the guide on how to auto-forward Telegram messages. And post only where members expect you to: scheduling makes it easy to send more often than people want.

Scheduling from several accounts, or as a team

Native scheduling happens inside one account’s app, one chat at a time, and Telegram offers no shared posting calendar across accounts. When several people or accounts post on a plan, write down who owns which slot, so the same announcement doesn’t go out twice and nobody assumes someone else has scheduled it.

Whatever tool you use, each account still sends as itself, under Telegram’s rules. Space messages out, send only to people and groups that expect them, and don’t use extra accounts to post more than one account would: accounts that message people who didn’t ask can be limited or frozen. Scheduling a whole week at once can also help your own workload; the guide on social media manager burnout covers planning your posting week so it doesn’t take over your evenings.

Native, bot or scheduler: which should you use?

Start with the simplest option that covers your case. Telegram’s own scheduling is free and needs nothing extra.

Which scheduling option fits which case
Your caseA good fitWhy
One chat, one-off postsTelegram’s own schedulingBuilt in, and nothing extra to set up
A daily or weekly single post in one chatTelegram Premium’s RepeatFixed intervals, single messages only
A channel run by a posting botA bot that holds posts and sends them on timeBots can’t use Telegram’s schedule queue, so the bot keeps the queue itself
Many chats, accounts or time zonesA scheduler that sends from your accountsOne list, one time zone per message, and a record of each send

Dripl’s message scheduler is one such tool, for the last row. Here is what it does today:

  • Dripl’s scheduler sends a message once, or repeats it every so many minutes, hours or days, until a date you set or with no end.
  • Each message has its own time zone, and a daily message keeps its local time when the clocks change.
  • You pick contacts, groups and channels from your connected accounts, and the same message goes to each of them.
  • Templates fill in {recipient_name} as each message goes out, and {date}, {time} and {day} with the date, time and weekday in UTC at that moment.
  • Every message keeps to its account’s daily and hourly caps and the gap between messages.
  • The sent log shows what went out and what failed, with Telegram’s error, and you can resend what failed.

Dripl doesn’t send silently, and it posts only where the sending account itself can post. If one account and one chat is all you need, Telegram’s own scheduling is enough.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can’t find it? Contact support

Can you schedule recurring messages on Telegram?

Yes, if you have Telegram Premium. Hold Send, choose Schedule Message, then tap Repeat and pick daily, weekly, every two weeks, monthly, every three months, twice a year or yearly. Repeats work only for single messages, not albums. For other intervals, such as every six hours, you need a separate scheduler with its own repeat settings.

How many messages can I schedule in a Telegram chat?

Telegram doesn’t publish the number. A community reference lists up to 100 scheduled messages per chat, and the API has an error, SCHEDULE_TOO_MUCH, for going over the cap. Each photo or video in an album reportedly counts as one message, so photo-heavy posts use the allowance faster.

Do scheduled Telegram messages send if my phone is off?

Yes. Going by Telegram’s API documentation, your app hands the message to Telegram with its send time, and it waits in Telegram’s schedule queue rather than on your phone. So your device can be off or offline when it goes. You need a connection only when you create, edit or cancel it.

How far ahead can I schedule a Telegram message?

A community reference lists up to 365 days. Telegram doesn’t publish the figure, but the API rejects dates beyond its cap with SCHEDULE_DATE_TOO_LATE. For anything a year or more away, set a reminder in Saved Messages closer to the date and schedule the real post then.

Can I schedule a Telegram message in a different time zone?

Not directly. The app reads the time you pick in your device’s time zone, so convert the recipients’ local time to yours first. Watch the weeks when one place has changed its clocks and the other hasn’t yet: in 2026, London and New York are four hours apart from 25 October to 1 November.
